Sermon Stew

Sermon Stew

 First find the right recipe,
the Lectionary (cookbook) is always a good place to begin.

Gather the main ingredients:
          Old Testament scripture
          New Testament scripture
          Psalm (optional)

Read all ingredients carefully,
take time to pray for guidance and discernment on the message.
Make room for the Holy Spirit to do its part.
Set main ingredients aside.

Prep work to do will include more readings,
(all these ingredients are optional and the amount is by your own discretion.)
1 to 3 commentaries (per main ingredient)
          other theological or historical books,
                    may include creeds or confessions.
Begin to mix main ingredients with supplementary ingredients
          and your own discerning interpretation.
Once again do not forget to let the Holy Spirit guide you.

As you begin to mix, there is the option of spices.
Hebrew or Greek (small touch of spice)
Do not use both or it may leave a bad taste.
Do not forget to blend in context for today!

It may take a few days to get the recipe right;
it may need to sit overnight more than once.
When you think it is done, let it sit untouched for at least 12 hours.
Then re-read, adjust to taste, adding ingredients if needed.
Re-read aloud until satisfied.
Declare it done.
Do not adjust again before it is ready to be preached.

Contains no calories!
